The Motive
I traded high heels and a briefcase for boots and a sidearm—and eventually, a keyboard.
During twenty-two years with the Dallas Police Department, I moved between the ordinary and the unthinkable. I walked crime scenes, chased shadows through dark alleys, and faced the danger.
Now, I write what I know—cops and crime. My plots are inspired by real cases, haunting encounters, and characters drawn from experience. That’s why each novel includes The Story Behind the Fiction—a glimpse into the facts that sparked the fiction.
Every book begins with a crime. And like any investigation, it’s about connecting the dots. I build each case on emotional tension and suspense, unraveling twists and turns grounded in unexpected truths—biometric surveillance, WWII Navajo Code Talkers, a 1930s Dallas crime lord.
My crime thrillers spotlight the investigation—the clues, the chase, the justice. My cozy mysteries explore the people behind the crime, how it reverberates through lives and relationships.
Beyond fiction, I investigate mysteries that blur the line between history and folklore, truth and legend. As one half of The Mystery Review Crew, I’ve explored everything from the Headless Horseman’s origins to cold case murders in rural Texas. Whether it’s wartime espionage, a missing aviator, or jack-o-lantern lore, each story whispers the same question: What truths still linger in the shadows?
This website follows the same rhythm. One clue. One page. One shiver at a time.
